Early Reassurance Scan

This scan offers reassurance in early pregnancy before your NHS dating scan. It is performed by a fully qualified, NHS-trained sonographer using modern ultrasound equipment.
Appointment length: 20 minutes

If you don't know the first day of your last menstrual period, please book your scan at least 3 weeks after your positive pregnancy test.
Before Your Scan
Drink about 1 pint (500ml) of water 1 hour before your appointment and arrive with a comfortably full bladder.
Please arrive 5 minutes early to complete your paperwork.

If you have pain or bleeding, please contact your hospital's Early Pregnancy Unit before booking.
This scan is not a replacement for your NHS pregnancy scans.
This is a reassurance scan and is not a diagnostic examination.
Strictly for patients aged 16 and over. If you are 16–18 years old, you must attend with a responsible adult and bring your hospital notes.
If needed, you may be offered a transvaginal scan to provide a clearer assessment.
No GP referral is required.

Please allow up to 1 hour for your appointment. Sometimes babies are not in an ideal position for clear 4D images. If needed, we'll ask you to take a short walk and return for another attempt during your visit.

For the best 3D/4D images:
